One of two developers keen on capturing outlet store shopping dollars
in Chesterfield Valley said it now has all the government and agency
documents in hand to erect a shopping center at Boones Crossing exit and
Highway 40.
Chief Operating Officer Bill Taubman of Taubman Prestige Outlets Chesterfield announced
he would close on the purchase of property from Chesterfield's Monarch
Levee District Wednesday to build an outlets center.
The price of the former farm land was not immediately clear, but
purchase may have been contingent on the yearlong approval process from
federal, state and local agencies.
The first step would be to install drainage and utilities on the undeveloped property, Taubman said.
"Building walls will start going up in October 2012 and the shopping
center will officially open on October 24, 2013 at 10 a.m. sharp,"
Taubman said at a groundbreaking ceremony.
The Michigan-based developer plans 100 stores on 49 acres in an open-air shopping center. See artist's renderings accompanying article.
The second outlet developer, Simon Properties,
hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking earlier this month on its site at
the Daniel Boone Bridge over the Missouri River. However, there are a
number of approvals outstanding in the typically lengthy process. Key
among them was a drainage plan that some feared would disrupt adjoining Rombach Farm.
Taubman estimates their own outlet store shopping center will bring
1,200 retail jobs with it, and $14 million in tax revenue—which would
benefit Chesterfield's city government.
Construction should generate about 750 jobs, Taubman said. Preparation at the site began in April, with routine grading.
Missouri House of Representatives Majority Leader Tim Jones spoke at
the ceremony, saying he was happy to see jobs and investments in
Chesterfield.
Taubman said the outlet stores would become "a shopping destination
for locals and visitors alike" and went on to reveal what stores were
expected to be there:

according to a statement read aloud.
