Lance provides crisis and strategic communications counsel to Tusk clients on how to navigate the ever-changing media landscape. Lance rose rapidly through the political ranks forging a career that took him from Chicago to Washington and back. Lance’s experience and professionalism has earned him the trust of colleagues, politicians, government officials and reporters. He brings that experience and knowledge to every Tusk client helping them to succeed in the trenches of earned media.
Prior to joining Tusk Strategies, Lance served in Illinois state government as deputy chief of staff to Governor Bruce Rauner. Lance joined the administration after Rauner’s historic 2014 election win, where he played a key role as the campaign’s senior communications advisor. As communications director for US Senator Mark Kirk, Lance executed the media strategy for the Highland Park Republican’s successful return to Congress following a debilitating stroke. Lance oversaw stories with multiple national outlets including CBS Sunday Morning and People Magazine. In 2012, Lance served as deputy communications director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee in Washington, DC.
Prior to joining the NRSC, Lance directed communications and served as a senior advisor on Mark Kirk’s successful 2010 US Senate campaign. Additionally, Lance served three years as communications director for the Illinois Republican Party, overseeing party communication efforts for multiple campaigns. Lance was instrumental in planning and executing the ILGOP’s push for a special election to fill the seat of Barack Obama. In 2014, Lance was asked to serve as the Republican member on the board of the SIU Paul Simon Public Policy Institute. He earned both his B.A. and J.D. from Southern Illinois University. Lance is based out of our Chicago office.
