Position Overview

As a Vice President of Communications reporting directly to the Head of the Crypto + Advanced Tech , you will focus on earned, social, and paid media strategies that supercharge client policy and business aims.  Other responsibilities will include:

  • Devising innovative ways for our clients and their executive to build their reputation in the tech media and policy ecosystem through media appearances, conferences, podcasts, newsletters, and TV opportunities.
  • Creating and executing communications strategies around major market expansions, fundraising announcements, policy announcements, product launches, and other milestones.
  • Proactively identifying storylines to create ad hoc media opportunities.
  • Drafting and editing content including op-eds, testimony, speeches, and press releases.
  • Assisting with new business proposals by putting together creative ideas and tactics.

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience at a public affairs agency, in-house, in government, and/or on political or issue advocacy campaigns.
  • Experience pitching blockchain technology, AI, fintech, and other emerging technologies. Experience working in crypto is required.
  • Experience crafting media opportunities for brands, technologies or clients in Web3. The ideal candidate hangs out on tech and crypto twitter, and understands builders’ perspective and goals for the industry at large.
  • Ability to provide examples of campaigns or projects that show how your creative communications efforts drove a successful media, regulatory, legislative, or political outcome.
  • Reporter contacts at relevant beats.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at once and under tight deadlines.

Position Overview

Tusk Strategies is seeking a Vice President to lead high-impact communications and public affairs campaigns for companies shaping the future of technology, AI, and innovation. This role sits at the intersection of advanced tech, policy, and storytelling – helping clients navigate complex regulatory environments, build compelling narratives, and execute campaigns that influence public perception and policy outcomes.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned communications strategist with deep experience supporting fast-growing or highly regulated industries, and who thrives in fast-moving, high-stakes environments. This role requires someone who can translate sophisticated technologies into accessible narratives, build integrated campaign strategies, and manage complex client needs with precision.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Client Management
    • Serve as day-to-day lead for client accounts, acting as the primary liaison and coordinating across internal teams to ensure flawless execution.
    • Develop big-picture strategic plans, narratives, and campaign frameworks tailored to companies operating in AI, emerging tech, and innovation-heavy sectors.
    • Guide clients through complex challenges involving policy, regulatory scrutiny, market shifts, and public perception.
  • Campaign Development & Execution
    • Design and execute integrated communications campaigns, including media strategy, stakeholder mapping, narrative architecture, and coalition engagement.
    • Lead drafting of messaging, talking points, statements, speeches, op-eds, briefing materials, and other content that translates technical subject matter into clear, compelling storytelling.
    • Pitch media, identify key targets, and cultivate relationships across tech, policy, and business press.
    • Build and manage stakeholder outreach strategies, including government, industry, advocacy, academic, and community partners
  • Technology, Policy & AI Expertise
    • Apply a sophisticated understanding of AI, data governance, emerging technology trends, and regulatory issues to client strategies.
    • Translate complex or technical topics into communications frameworks that resonate with policymakers, press, and public audiences.
    • Anticipate risks and opportunities for clients navigating rapidly changing technological and political landscapes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with senior leadership, SVPs, and junior associates to develop high-quality communications materials, campaign plans, and strategic recommendations.
    • Collaborate with policy teams, research teams, and creative partners to ensure integrated, high-impact deliverables.
    • Travel as needed to support client meetings, campaign activations, stakeholder convenings, or field operations.

 

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of experience in strategic communications, public affairs, technology policy, or campaigns — ideally supporting companies in AI, frontier tech, or other innovation-driven sectors.
  • Proven success leading complex, multi-stakeholder campaigns in fast-paced environments.
  • Exceptional writing, messaging, and narrative development skills — able to communicate technical concepts with clarity and impact.
  • Strong understanding of the policy and regulatory dynamics shaping AI, data privacy, tech governance, platform regulation, or emerging industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships, provide senior-level counsel, and oversee cross-functional teams.
  • Experience engaging with reporters, policymakers, community leaders, and industry stakeholders.
  • Highly resourceful, proactive, and comfortable navigating ambiguous or rapidly shifting priorities

VP, New York Public Affairs

Position Overview

As a Vice President for New York Public Affairs, you will be directing client efforts, including:

  • Helping manage client relationships with responsibility to execute on campaign vision.
  • Utilizing your understanding of New York City and State political and policy processes to develop sophisticated and comprehensive campaign plans.
  • Consistently get points on the board, such as by proactively identifying storylines to create ad hoc media opportunities.
  • Leveraging and developing press contacts to generate earned media for clients, including television, podcasts, and newsletters.
  • Identifying and securing third-party validators and grassroots and grasstops supporters for client campaigns.
  • Drafting and editing op-eds, testimony, speeches, polls, digital and social content, and client memos and decks.
  • Organizing and maintaining client folders, collateral, and agendas to ensure well-run client engagements.
  • Researching relevant issues and sector areas to inform clients on political risks and opportunities.
  • Assisting with new business proposal ideas and content.

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience at a public affairs agency, in-house, in government, and/or on political or issue advocacy campaigns.
  • Examples of campaigns or projects that show how your creative communications efforts drove a successful regulatory, legislative, or political outcome.
  • Reporter contacts, particularly in New York and in one or two subject matter areas.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Desire to work on projects beyond New York and to acquire new skillsets.
  • Willingness to lobby and wear multiple hats during a client engagement.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at once and work under tight deadlines while responding quickly to team members and clients.
  • Ability to work in our Manhattan office 4 days per week with occasional travel required.
